Томан

Etymology[edit]

From Old Turkic tuman "mist, fog", probably from Proto-Turkic *dum (cold).

Unknown whether related to Proto-Indo-European *dʰuh₂mós (smoke) (Sanskrit धूम (dhūma, smoke, mist, vapor), Latin fūmus (vapor, smoke), Avestan 𐬛𐬎𐬥𐬨𐬀𐬥- (dunman-), etc.)

Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (tuman, mist, fog); Kazakh тұман (tuman), Uzbek tuman, Uyghur تۇمان‎ (tuman‎), Yakut туман (tuman), Turkish duman (mist, fog), etc.
