Etymology[edit]
From Common Kypchak üy ("house, home", see the Kypchak cognates below), from Proto-Turkic *eb (“house”).
Immediately cognate with Tatar өй (öy), Kazakh үй (üi), Kyrgyz үй (üy), Karachay-Balkar юй (üy), Kumyk уьй (üy), Southern Altai ӱй (üy, “home, house”).
