Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *h₁ed-. The verb is suppletive: part of the conjugation is filled by կեր- ‎(ker-), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷerh₃-, whence also կեր ‎(ker).

  1. to eat
    անյագաբար ուտելanyagabar utel ― to eat greedily, to eat up, to devour
  2. (figuratively) to run through, to squander, to eat up, to waste, to consume
    եկեր զամենայն կեանս իւրeker zamenayn keans iwr ― he lavished or squandered away all his fortune
  3. to eat away or up, to corrode; to fret; to consume, to devour
