Cognates include Ancient Greek (Laconia) ἑλλά ‎(hellá, seat), Latin sella ‎(seat, chair, saddle), Old Church Slavonic седьло ‎(sedĭlo) (Russian седло ‎(sedlo)), Old High German sezzal ‎(seat) (German Sessel) and Old English setl (English settle).
