From Middle Persian 𐭥𐭠𐭭𐭢 (ʿʾng /⁠vâng⁠/),[1] from Proto-Indo-European *bʰen- (to beat, hit, injure); compare Northern Kurdish bang, Persian بانگ (bâng), English bang.
