From the root س ي ر(s-y-r). Tool noun formed from the characteristic adjective of سَارَ(sāra, to move, to travel), as سَيَّار(sayyār, moving frequently) +‎ ـَة(-a).

      wa-jāʾat sayyāratun fa-ʾarsalū wāridahum fa-ʾadlā dalwahu qāla yā bušrā hāḏā ḡulāmun wa-ʾasarrūhu biḍāʿatan wa-l-lahu ʿalīmun bi-mā yaʿmalūna
      And there came some travellers, and they sent their water-boy who let down his bucket into the well. He cried out, “Oh, what a great find! Here is a boy!” And they took him secretly ˹to be sold˺ as merchandise, but Allah is All-Knowing of what they did.
