- to become kindled, to burn up, to blaze, to flame (of a fire)
- to kindle, ignite, light (a fire); make it burn fiercely, flame, blaze
- to kindle, excite, enflame (war, passion, the heart, etc.); make it burn fiercely, rage
- to enflame (the heart)
- to give oneself entirely over to (something), to be extreme in (something)
