From Sanskrit मेहति (mehati), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hmáyȷ́ʰati, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃méyǵʰeti (to urinate). Cognate with Shina म्योनॊ (myōno), Persian میختن (mixtan), Portuguese mijar, Dutch mijgen (to urinate), Lithuanian mȳžti.
