Inherited from Middle Persian [script needed] (pʾhlwk' /⁠pahlūg⁠/), from Old Persian *parθukah, suffixed from Proto-Iranian *párcuš (rib).[1] Compare Northern Kurdish parsû (side), Sanskrit पर्शु (parśu, rib), Russian пе́рси (pérsi, bosom).
