Akin to Aramaic גלימא (galīmā, blanket, garment, cloth), both from Ancient Greek κάλυμμα (kálumma, cover, top, covering) derived from καλύπτω (kalúptō, to cover), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱel- (to cover).
