Akin to Aramaic גלימא ‎(galīmā, blanket, garment, cloth), both from Ancient Greek κάλυμμα ‎(kálumma, cover, top, covering) derived from καλύπτω ‎(kalúptō, to cover), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱel- ‎(to cover).
