    ܐܲܠܦܵܐ ܫܸܢܹ̈ܐ ܕܬܲܫܥܝܼܬ݂ܵܐalpā šinnē d-tašˁīṯāa thousand years of history
Usage notes
[edit]
  • This is and behaves like a normal masculine noun, especially when used as part of larger numbers (2,000, 20,000, etc.); e.g. ܐܲܠܦܹܝܢ (alpēn)/ܬܪܹܝܢ ܐܲܠܦܹ̈ܐ (trēn alpē, two thousand), ܚܲܡܫܵܐ ܐܲܠܦܹ̈ܐ (ḥamšā alpē, five thousand), ܥܸܣܪܝܼܢ ܐܲܠܦܹ̈ܐ (ˁisrīn alpē, twenty thousand).
  • The plural form ܐܲܠܦܹ̈ܐ (alpē) is used in numbers to form thousands, while the plural ܐܲܠܦܵܝܹ̈ܐ (alpāyē) is used for everything else; for example, ܐܲܠܦܵܝܹ̈ܐ ܕܐ݇ܢܵܫܹ̈ܐalpāyē d-nāšēThousands of people.
  • As a number, stress falls on the last syllable rather than the penultimate when enumerating a noun after it.
