Etymology 3
Compare Jewish Babylonian Aramaic בֻּסְרָא (busrā), בּוּסְרָא (busrā, “unripe grape”), Hebrew בֹּסֶר (boṣer, “unripe grape”), and Arabic بُسْر (busr, “unripe date”). The transmitted vocalization is ܒܸܣܪܹ̈ܐ (besrē), but the cognates suggest otherwise, the word having been conflated with the word for flesh. With the paucity of vocalized attestations one wouldn’t know either if it is really used in the plural only, but the cognates suggest that it is untrue.
