From Old Marathi 𑘕𑘯𑘜𑘹 (jaḷaṇe), from Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 2 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "pmh" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E., from Sanskrit ज्वलति (jválati), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *ȷ́wálati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ȷ́wálati, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵwélH-e-ti, from *ǵwelH- (“to burn, to glow”). Cognate with Konkani जळ्चे (zaḷce), Gujarati જળવું (jaḷvũ), Hindi जलना (jalnā), Punjabi ਜਲਣਾ (jalṇā) / جلنا (jlnā), Nepali जल्नु (jalnu), Assamese জলা (zola).
