    From Proto-Indo-European *terkʷ- (to turn). Cognate with Latin torqueō (to twist), Hittite 𒋻𒌑𒍣 (tarúzi), Old Church Slavonic тракъ (trakŭ), Tocharian B tärk-, and possibly Ancient Greek τρέπω (trépō). Related to तर्कु (tarku, spindle).
