Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hnā́, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hnā́, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂nḗr (man). Cognate with Avestan 𐬥𐬀𐬭 (nar), Old Armenian այր (ayr), Ancient Greek ἀνήρ (anḗr), Persian نر‎ (nar).
