Borrowed from Sanskrit पर्ण (parṇá), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *parnám, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *parnám, from Proto-Indo-European *pornóm (feather, wing). Doublet of पन्ना (pannā, page) and पान (pān, betel leaf).
