From Proto-Indo-Iranian *priHtíš (pleasurable sensation), from Proto-Indo-European *préyH-ti-s ~ *priH-téy-s, from *preyH- (to please). Cognate with Avestan 𐬟𐬭𐬌𐬙𐬌 (friti, prayer), Sogdian [script needed] (brīti). By surface analysis, प्री (prī) +‎ -ति (-ti).
