Borrowed from Classical Persian بچه (bačča), from Middle Persian wck' (waččag, “child, baby, cub”), from Proto-Iranian *wacáh (“calf”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *watsás. Doublet of बछड़ा (bachṛā, “calf, child, boy”), which is directly from Sanskrit वत्स (vatsá).
