[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit [Term?], from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀮𑀟𑀺𑀓𑁆𑀓- (*laḍikka-). Probably related to Sanskrit लाडिक (lāḍika, “boy, servant”) or लट (laṭa, “fool”). Cognate to Awadhi लड़का (laṛkā), Punjabi ਲਡ਼ਕਾ (laṛkā), Bengali লেড়কা (leṛoka).
