[edit]Inherited from Prakrit वत्ति (vatti), वट्टिआ (vaṭṭiā) without cluster simplification—compare the dated form बाती (bātī). Further from Sanskrit वर्ति (varti), वर्ती (vartī), वर्तिका (vartikā, “wick”). Doublet of वर्ति (varti), वर्तिका (vartikā).
