Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Aryan *rúkṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *rúkš, from Proto-Indo-European lúks (light), from *lewk- (light; to be bright). Cognate with Latin lūx, Russian луч (luč, light), Persian روشن (rowšan), Old English lēoht (whence English light).
