Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *wā́kṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *wā́kš, from Proto-Indo-European *wṓkʷs, from *wekʷ- (“to speak”). Cognate with Latin vōx, Ancient Greek ὄψ (óps), Persian آواز (âvâz).
