Inherited from Paisaci Prakrit [Term?] (compare Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀅𑀁𑀕𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀞 (aṃguṭṭha)), from Sanskrit अङ्गुष्ठ (aṅguṣṭha), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hangúštʰas, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eng- (joint). Cognate with Dogri ङूठा (ṅūṭhā), Hindi अंगूठा (aṅgūṭhā), Gujarati અંગૂઠો (aṅgūṭho), Marathi अंगठा (aṅgṭhā), and Rajasthani अंगुठौ (ãṅguṭhau).
