From Old Khmer ហោរ៑ (hor), ហោរ (hora, astrologer); ultimately from Pali horā (hour) or Sanskrit होरा (horā, hour; horoscope). Cognate with Modern Khmer ហោរ (hao), Burmese ဟူးရား (hu:ra:), Mon ဟောရာ, Lao ໂຫນ (), ໂຫຣະ (ro), ໂຫລາ, ຫູຮາ (hū hā).
