From Proto-Mon-Khmer *ɟuŋ ~ *ɟuəŋ ~ *ɟəŋ (“leg, foot”). Cognate with Bahnar jơ̆ng and Mon ဇိုၚ်. Munda cognates include Santali ᱡᱟᱝᱜᱟ (jaṅga).
