[edit]From Middle Khmer សុភា (subhā), សូភា (sūbhā, “court; court of justice; member of a court: justice, judge”), ultimately from Pali sabhā (“assembly; congregation; convention”) or Sanskrit सभा (sabhā, “assembly; meeting”). Doublet of សភា (saʼphiə). Cognate with Thai สภา (sà-paa), สุภา (sù-paa).
