Etymology[edit]

From (つく) (tsukuri, (れん)(よう)(けい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb (つく) (tsukuru, to make; to create).) + (はなし) (hanashi). The hanashi changes to banashi as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
