From (なな) (nana, seven) + (ほし) (hoshi, stardot) + 天道(てんとう) (tentō, short for 天道虫 (tentō mushi), “ladybird, ladybug).

The use of 瓢虫 for tentō is an orthographic borrowing from Chinese.
