Etymology

From classical (やす) (yasushi), from Old Japanese. First appears in the Kojiki of 712 CE as 夜須(久) (yasu(ku)).[1][2] In turn from Proto-Japonic *yasu. Cognate with (やす) (yasumu, to rest).[2][3]
