  1. (grammar) a verbal inflectional category; the conditional form. Evolved from the 已然形 (realis form).

Usage notes[edit]

This is the -e stem of godan verbs. Not to be confused with the 可能動詞 (kanō dōshi, “potential form of verbs”).
