Etymology[edit]
From Mongolian ᠪᠠᠭᠰᠢ (baɣsi, “master, trainer, teacher”) or Manchu ᠪᠠᡴᠰᡳ (baksi, “scholar”), in turn from Chinese 博士 (MC pak dzriX, “master”). Doublet of 博士 (bóshì) and 把式 (bǎshì).
