Compound of Old Japanese-derived elements 間 (aida, “between; relations”) +‎ 柄 (-gara, “quality, characteristics”).

親子(おやこ)の間柄(あいだがら)は難(むずか)しいです。
Oyako no aidagara wa muzukashii desu.
The parent-child relationship is difficult.
