First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 가지〮다〮 (Yale: kàcí-tá). Possibly borrowed from Manchu ᡤᠠᠵᡳᠮᠪᡳ (gajimbi, to bring).
