First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 믌ᄀᆞᆺ (Yale: muls.kos). From (Yale: mul, “water”) + (s) + ᄀᆞᆺ (Yale: kos, “edge”).
