-и́ный (-ínyj)

  1. Adjective-forming suffix, added to nouns denoting animals, typically forming relational adjectives.
    гусь (gusʹ, goose) + ‎-и́ный (-ínyj) → ‎гуси́ный (gusínyj, (relational) goose)
    змея́ (zmejá, snake) + ‎-и́ный (-ínyj) → ‎змеи́ный (zmeínyj, (relational) snake; serpentine, snake's)
    блоха́ (bloxá, flea) + ‎-и́ный (-ínyj) → ‎блоши́ный (blošínyj, (relational) flea)

Note the following properties:

  • The suffix is always stressed.
  • The suffix triggers the Slavic first palatalization when added to a stem ending in a velar (г к х) or in ц.
