  1. suffix used to form noun (uppercase) demonyms
    Jamaïque + ‎-ain → ‎Jamaïcain

  2. suffix used to form adjective (lowercase) demonyms
    Jamaïque + ‎-ain → ‎jamaïcain
    Mexique + ‎-ain → ‎mexicain
  3. indicates the old oblique case (cas régime) of certain nouns
