Etymology

From Middle Dutch -sam, later also -saem based on the inflected forms, from Old Dutch -sam, from Proto-Germanic *-samaz. Cognate with English -some, German -sam, Old Norse -samr.

  1. Used to form adjectives/adverbs of base adjective's quality; compare English -some.
    moe (tired) + ‎-zaam → ‎moeizaam (tiresome)
