зогсох
Mongolian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Attested once in a 1338 Middle Mongol document as ᠵᠣᠭᠰᠤᠭᠤᠯᠪᠠᠰᠤ (ǰoɣsuɣulbasu, “(if he) let (them) stop”), but otherwise restricted to modern Central Mongolic.
Cognate with Buryat зогсохо (zogsoxo), Kalmyk зогсх (zogsx).
Replaced Proto-Mongolic *baï- in the sense 'to stand', see байх (bajx, “to be”).
