Etymology

From Proto-Vietic *tʃ-rn-ɛh, the *-rn- (instrumental derivative) infixed form of Proto-Vietic *tʃɛh, whence Modern Vietnamese xỉa (to pick; to jab). Also related to Vietnamese chĩa (pitchfork) and to Chinese (MC tsrheaH).
