Etymology
From Middle High German botschaft, boteschaft, from Old High German botoscaft, equivalent to Bote + -schaft. Cognate with German Low German Böskupp, Dutch boodschap (whence also Afrikaans boodskap and Sranan Tongo boskopu), Swedish budskap, Danish budskab (whence also Norwegian Bokmål budskap), Norwegian Nynorsk bodskap, Icelandic boðskapur and Faroese boðskapur.
