Etymology
Unattested verb only found in compounds (see derived terms below), from Proto-Indo-European *gʰed- (“to find, hold”). Cognate with Ancient Greek χανδάνω (khandánō, “to hold”), English get (via Old Norse geta). Related to praeda and perhaps also hedera.
