Etymology
From Old Khmer ចោង៑ (coṅ), ចោង (coṅa), ចោង្ង៑ (coṅṅ, “to secure, to fasten, to bind, to tie; to construct, to build, to erect; to build with stone or brick, to make stonework or brickwork; etc”). Cognate with Modern Khmer ចង (cɑɑng), extended as ចំណង (cɑmnɑɑng), from which Thai จำนอง (jam-nɔɔng) is derived.
