From Proto-Indo-Iranian *māmsám, from Proto-Indo-European *mēms-ó-m, from *mḗms. Cognate with Albanian mish, Old Church Slavonic мѧсо (męso), Latin membrum, Old Armenian միս (mis), Gothic 𐌼𐌹𐌼𐌶 (mimz, “meat”).
