Etymology

Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *kes- (to cut) [1]. Cognate with Karakhanid کـَسْماكْ (kesmēk, to cut), Turkish kesmek etc.

Usage notes

  1. ^ kəsmək is only used if the person is cutting the hair himself/herself. In sentences like 'I will cut my hair tomorrow' and alike, where what is meant is that the person is going to get a haircut by a hairdresser, the verb form with the causative suffix -dir, kəsdirmək, is used instead
