Borrowed from Classical Persian بچه (bačča), from Middle Persian wck' (waččag, child, baby, cub), from Proto-Iranian *wacáh (calf), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *watsás. Doublet of बछड़ा (bachṛā, calf, child, boy), which is directly from Sanskrit वत्स (vatsá).
