Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Iranian *kʰā́dati, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷh₂ḗdeti ~ *kʷh₂édeti, from *kʷh₂ed-.
Cognate with Old Armenian խածանեմ (xacanem) and Proto-Slavic *kǫsàti (“to bite”).

मृगा इव हस्तिनः खादथा वना यदारुणीषु तविषीरयुग्ध्वम् ॥- mahiṣāso māyinaścitrabhānavo girayo na svatavaso raghuṣyadaḥ.
mṛgā iva hastinaḥ khādathā vanā yadāruṇīṣu taviṣīrayugdhvam. - Mighty, with wondrous power and marvellously bright, selfstrong like mountains, ye glide swiftly on your way.
Like the wild elephants ye eat the forests up when ye assume your strength among the bright red flames.
