Or maybe linked to a Vulgar Latin *ronea or *aronea, from Latin arānea (“spiderweb”) (perhaps with influence from another word, such as rōbīgō (“rust”), rubea (“reddish”), or rōdō (“gnaw”)); cf. araña.
