Dutch[edit]

First attested as Arlandt in 1584. Potentially a compound of Middle Dutch ar (natural watercourse) and land (land). The initial D- may have developed as a result of the definite article de being contracted into the word.

  • IPA(key): /ˈdaː.lɑnt/
  • Hyphenation: Da‧land

Proper noun[edit]

Daland n

  1. A hamlet in Venray, Limburg, Netherlands.
