Etymology

Phonetic rendering from the letter names.

Adjective

EZ

  1. (US, informal, mostly in names of products and services) Abbreviation of easy.

Usage notes

Not used in other English-speaking countries, such as Australia, the UK and Ireland, where the letter z is pronounced "zed", not "zee". In Canada, while the letter 'Z' is usually pronounced "zed", this form of 'easy' is still found, with the 'Z' in 'EZ' pronounced as 'zee' as in the US.

Noun

EZ (plural EZs)

  1. Initialism of exclusion zone: a geographic area in which some sanctioning authority prohibits specific activities. See also Restricted Area.
