Etymology[edit]

From Gallicize +‎ -ation, from Gallic + -ize, from Gallicus (of or relating to Gaul and the Gauls), used archaistically in New Latin and English in reference to modern France and the French. Cf. French gaulois and gallicisme.

  1. Synonym of Frenchification, the act or process of making French of more French-like, especially in formal and academic contexts.
    The Gallicization of Algeria—at least the cities on its northern coast—was a national project for over a century.
